Biography
Dana Bell was born in Detroit, Michigan, in 1974. She received a BFA from Wayne State University and an MFA from the Maine College of Art in 2004. Her work centers on the human form and gesture, explored through photography, painting, printmaking, choreography, mixed media, and handmade paper. She is currently living and working in Brooklyn, NY.
In 2012, she was awarded both the NYC Artist’s Fellowship and the Rauschenberg Change, Inc. award. The following year, she received the 2013 NYFA Fellowship in Choreography as the Gregory Millard Fellow. In 2020, she was awarded a Maker Residency at Fat Cat Fab Lab.
She received a Manhattan Graphics Center printmaking scholarship in 2022 and was honored by the Print Club of New York in 2023. In 2024, she was awarded the Pace House Residency in Stonington, Maine and a Bischoff Inn residency and is an Artist in Residence at Penumbra Foundation (2025)
